Configure APPE

You can enable Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) to allow the Fiery Server to process and render PDF jobs without the need to convert them to PostScript.

Important: There are two versions of Configure and they are specific to the Fiery Server you are connected to. This is a combined procedure that describes what to do when connected to a Fiery Server with FS100/100Pro or earlier, and notes about what to do with FS150/150 Pro or later. If you are not sure which version of Configure you are using, see Which version of Configure am I using?.
  1. From Configure, choose PDL > Adobe PDF Print Engine.
Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, you can find settings mentioned in this procedure in RIP > APPE instead.
  2. Select Enable Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE).
  3. If you want the Adobe PDF Print Engine Preferred option in Job Properties to be selected by default for all PDF jobs, select Use Adobe PDF Print Engine Preferred for PDF jobs.
  4. Apply or save your changes.

Once enabled in Configure, a checkbox for Adobe PDF Print Engine Preferred is available in Job Properties.

For information about Fiery Server options that appear in Job Properties, see Printing, which is part of the user documentation set.
