Set patch options

Before you print patches, you can set options such as ink limits and the patch object type. The options you can set depend on the type of profile you are creating: CMYK, CMYK with additional colors, or RGB.

For a CMYK profile, you can set options for ink or toner limits and the patch object type. For a profile for CMYK plus additional colors, you can set options for handling the additional colors. For an RGB profile, you can set the patch object type.

  • If you profile a Fiery-driven printer connected to the network, the Fiery Server provides the default settings for these options.

  • If you profile a Fiery XF-driven printer, Printer Profiler extracts the settings from the base linearization file. We recommend that you do not change these settings.

Set ink and toner for profiles

You can set ink and toner for profiles for CMYK only and profiles for CMYK plus additional colors.

  1. In the Print Settings window, click Expert Settings.
  2. To create a profile for CMYK, set the ink or toner limits for printing patch pages.
Note: We recommend that you print with the default values unless your printer has problems printing with those levels.
  3. To create a a profile for CMYK plus additional colors, set how the additional colors are added to CMY and how the transition from CMY to the additional colors occurs.

For each additional color, you can set ink or toner limit, purity (amount of CMY that is retained at the maximum coverage), and a gamma value for the tonal value increase.

Note: Ink or toner limits for CMY are not adjusted when the printer supports additional colors.

Set object type for patches

For a CMYK or an RGB profile, you can set the patch object type as either bitmap or vector graphics. We recommend that you keep the default setting (bitmap images).

Note: Be sure to print the patches using the same object type as the actual jobs you will print using the profile that you are creating.
  1. In the Print Settings window, click Expert Settings.
  2. Under Create Patches As, click one of these object types:
    • Bitmap images - Sets image objects with color behavior similar to Adobe Photoshop images.

    • Vector graphics - Sets vector graphics with color behavior similar to Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Freehand illustrations.
