Measuring device settings

Device-specific settings are available for some measuring devices. Selecting the right setting ensures that you achieve reliable color measurements.

In Command WorkStation, you need a measuring device for the following purposes:
  • In Color Tools - To define ink limits
  • In Verifier - To measure color consistency
  • In Color Editor - To measure a printed spot color

The measurement condition defines the UV content of the incident illumination. Some measuring devices support M0, M1, and M2 measurement conditions, as defined by ISO 13655. In Europe, non-UV color values are usually used for proofing purposes.

  • M0 — The UV content of the incident illumination is not defined. Supports single-pass measurements, and any media without optical brighteners.
  • M1 — The UV content of the incident illumination is defined as D50. Support dual-pass measurements, and any media. For ISO verification, use the M1 measurement condition.
  • M2 — The UV content is ignored. M2 requires the spectral power distribution of the incident illumination to be in the wavelength range of 420 nm to 700 nm, with no substantial radiation power in wavelengths below 400 nm. Supports dual-pass measurements, and any media.

In Color Tools: If your printer produces large picoliter ink droplets, generate calibration charts with lower-resolution wider patches. Wider patches ensure more measurements per patch, thus increasing measurement accuracy.

In Color Tools:

  • For dark, opaque substrates, set the measuring device to reflection measurement mode.
  • For transparent/translucent substrates, set the measuring device to transmission measurement mode.
  • It is recommended that you create a generic white linearization for transparent/translucent substrates. If a generic white linearization is not adequate for your needs, contact EFI Support for assistance.
