Configure virtual printers

A virtual printer enables you to print to Command WorkStation through the print command of the graphics program.

Before you begin:
  • Make sure that you have already configured a hot folder.

  • Make sure that Command WorkStation is started. Otherwise, the printer is not listed in the print dialog box of the graphics program.

Settings you make in the print dialog box, such as the number of printed copies, overwrite the equivalent setting in Command WorkStation.

  1. In Server Manager: On the sidebar, click Printers, and select the printer. In the printer's tree view, select the workflow for which you previously configured a hot folder. On the File tab, expand the Job Detection panel.
  2. Select Create virtual printer.
  3. Type a printer name.

This is the name that appears in the print dialog box of the graphics program. You can use the default printer name, or you can type a custom printer name. If you type a custom printer name, it is recommended that you do not use a name that contains special characters.

You must now do the following:
  • Make sure the virtual printer is configured for printer sharing in the operating system. Otherwise, the virtual printer cannot be detected in the network.

  • If the Fiery XF server and the graphics program are installed on different computers, add the virtual printer as a new printer.

For more information, see the operating system's online help, or ask your system administrator.
